Herbivores- Plant Eating Animals
Animals that just eat plants as their food are called as herbivores.
Herbivores- plant eating animals. Herbivores are living organisms that only eat plants. A herbivore is an animal that gets its energy from eating plants and only plants. Omnivores can also eat parts of plants but generally only the fruits and vegetables produced by fruit-bearing plants.
Herbivores also have molars in the back which they use to grind up the plants in their mouths. Herbivory is the act of eating plants and a herbivore is an animal that eats plants. An herbivore is an animal that eats plants as its primary source of sustenance.
An herbivore that eats only leaves and shoots off a plant is called folivore. They consume both plant and animal matter. These animals can vary their diet depending on the food that is most plentiful sometimes eating plants and other times eating meat.
However toxic plants could play an important role in the survival of wild herbivores mainly when forage is insufficient and animal density is high because it may force wild animals to eat less preferred plants which often contain toxic compounds. They are called xylophages. A giraffe in the image is eating plants so it is a herbivore.
Herbivorous animals are those who survive on plants fruits leaves and other natural food sources. Some animals such as giraffe elephant and rhinoceros eat only plants. In fact the top 10 largest land animals to ever live were all vegetarians.
